Yesterday, 3rd of March 2021, Hassan Shammes an 18 years old young man committed a suicide in Syria after he left a very touching suicidal letter to his family, his letter started as follows:

First of all, I am sorry because I will let you pass those difficult moments because of me, if you love me, stay strong, I can not take it anymore, I know this (suicide) is not a solution, but I just wanted to make it faster, believe me or not, nothing makes me happy, nothing helps me, I am alive, but I am a walking dead body, I hate being like that..

Hassan Shammes, died at age 18 in Damascus, Syria after committing a suicide

Hassan is not the First One

Syria has recently witnessed an increase in suicides among different age groups, including children and adolescents. Most of these cases were for unknown reasons, which portends imminent dangers about a greater spread of suicide if its root causes are not immediately addressed to avoid the recurrence of painful events of this kind in the Syrian society.

The Reason Behind Suicide

My personal opinion is the deadly economical situations, just last month Syrian Pound lost 25% of its value, reaching a record of $1=4,000S.P. Before the war in 2011, $1 was 48S.P.

The average salaries in Syria has not changed though (in SP of course).
